We even go an extra step when securing your account online by requesting not only your Customer Number and Login PIN, but by also requiring either correct answers to alternating security questions or that the request come from a computer that you have previously registered with us. ING DIRECT is a federally chartered financial institution. As such, we are required by law to maintain a certain level of privacy protection and strong security protections. Our privacy and security programs are reviewed annually by the Office of Thrift Supervision; the division of the US Treasury Department that regulates our Bank. The standards that we are held to by the government are at least as stringent as those used by third-party security evaluations (like TrustE, BBB online, or Thawt) and in most cases much better. If we aren't secure, or we don't protect Customer information, we would be shut down. Having another third-party review our security and privacy would be redundant.
